What to include in your message
The more of this you can give me, the more useful my reply will be. Don’t worry if you only have one or two:
- Your ancestor’s name, in every spelling you have seen it
- Approximate year of birth — a decade is enough
- Any place name from family papers, however misspelled
- Religion, if you know it
- Where and when they arrived in the US, Canada or elsewhere
- Documents you already hold: ship manifests, naturalisation papers, census entries, certificates, letters, photographs with writing on the back
Photographs taken on a phone are fine — just attach them to your email.
What happens next
I reply personally to every enquiry, usually within two to three working days. I am in Hungary — six hours ahead of New York, nine ahead of Los Angeles — so please allow for the time difference.
If I don’t believe the research can be done, I will tell you so. I would rather lose the work than take money for a search I don’t believe in.
Payment
Fees for international clients are quoted in euros. Payment is by bank transfer or PayPal, invoiced by DRM Hungary Kft. once we have agreed on the work. Nothing is charged before you have accepted a quote.
